Special Events
Marina Middle School May Carnival
At the end of the year our school put on a large festival for the students to celebrate the ending of a successful year. This event involved all staff and required intense coordination. Each Staff member either ran a carnival style booth or one of the many carnival attractions. This was one of the main events I put on each year. Some of the major responsibilities included:
Coordinating venders
Accounting for the entire event
Scheduling of staff members
National Geographic Geography Bee coordinator
I have acted as my school's coordinator for the National Geographic Geography Bee for the last 5 years at two different sites. This has included coordinating with the National Geographic Society to get our school qualified. Also, organizing and running the preliminary rounds of the bee within our content classes. Then organizing and facilitating a school wide finals where the winner may go on to compete in the state finals.
Halloween Haunted House
For the last eight school years I have built and ran a haunted house for the community as part of the school's Halloween Dance, and fall festivities. With help from the students and the community we build and run a haunted house for the students to community to enjoy. I have coordinated with several community groups to donate and supply materials for the construction of this attraction. Every year we sell out, and the event raises a substantial amount of money that our student body uses to run future events.
Student Government
I have been the acting chair of the student government for 8+ years. I run all day to day activities with our student government including elections, meetings, and school wide student government sponsored events. I have also coordinated field trips to meet our local leaders to show our students what running a local government is really about. I was even able to arrange a meeting with the acting Mayor of San Francisco and have him give us a private tour of city hall.
